Straight out of the bayous of Louisiana, the Sazerac (a.k.a. ‘Sazzy’) is considered America’s original cocktail. This Rye whiskey classic has tons of swag, packs a punch and is flavorful enough to be appealing to both men and women.
Watch my quick video to see just how easy it is to make this simple, yet sophisticated cocktail:
Sazerac
Ingredients:
2 oz. Rye Whiskey (I recommend Bulleit Rye)
3/4 oz. Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
4 drops Peychaud’s Bitters
4 drops Orange Bitters
1/2 tsp. Absinthe
2 inch piece of lemon rind
Directions:
-Take the lid off of your cocktail shaker, fill it with ice, and place in freezer. Place the glass that you will be serving the Sazerac in the freezer as well.
-Assemble your ingredients, and peel the 2″ piece of lemon zest from lemon. -Remove shaker from freezer and add whiskey, simple syrup, and bitters. Shake vigorously to combine. -To your cold cocktail glass add the absinthe and swirl to coat the interior of the glass. -Rub the lemon rind around the rim of the glass (peel side touching the glass). -Add contents of shaker to glass and serve immediately.
Recipe for Simple Syrup
